Mamahoela DIY kits make it easy to craft unique, sustainable gifts for babies and kids.
Who is Mamahoela?
Mamahoela is run by me, Eva, but really it’s a family affair. We’re a fresh DIY and craft kit brand for kids and babies. We started in 2020 from our home in Haarlem, the Netherlands.
I’ve worked in sustainable textile innovation and in strategy consultancy, supporting the growth of some very inspiring start-ups as well as some well-known brands. But really, crafting and creating with textiles and paper has always been my passion.
This urge to make something original and meaningful by hand grew even stronger while I was expecting our daughter. I noticed that a lot of off-the-shelf nursery items followed the same unoriginal design fads. What’s more, few products were made with the kind of high quality, sustainable materials I would expect for baby products.
It was so rewarding to see our baby surrounded by the unique items I made during my pregnancy. And even more rewarding, this inspired some friends to start making for their kids too. That’s when we decided to take the plunge and build Mamahoela!
The signature colourful Mamahoela look was created by the very talented Sue Doeksen. Sue designed the original figures and shapes that define the Mamahoela brand.
Why do we do what we do?
At Mamahoela we love enabling others to create. We started Mamahoela to bring the joy of making by hand for babies and kids to any parent or grandparent, regardless of skill level, with original designs and materials they can feel good about.
We care deeply about making every Mamahoela project created with our kits a lasting success. We want you to enjoy the process and be proud of the outcome. That’s why we test our manuals and patterns extensively. We also offer support at any point during the crafting process. If you’re stuck, please get in touch – we’re here to help!
How do we create sustainably?
Making every product a lasting success is also why we don’t cut corners on sustainability. We source only the best natural materials and find them locally if we can. We choose organic wherever possible. We think about the end of the useful life of our packaging and products right from the design stage.
Mamahoela offsets the direct impact of its operations by supporting reforestation projects. We do this through Ecologi.
